Meet Joshua Abel, a Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity from the University of Miami. Josh is a senior political science and French major hoping to attend law school post-graduation. He loves giving back to his community and does so through his involvement all over campus through student government, fraternity/sorority life, and campus Admissions. He is the current Chapter President of Lambda Chi Alpha and VP of Student Government at the University of Miami.
Josh recognizes that there’s a unique social culture surrounding fraternity/sorority life at Miami, and aims to challenge the status quo for what the average PNM is looking for in the fraternity experience. Josh takes pride in the way Lambda Chi Alpha treats their associate members (and all members). They don’t rely on the new member process to build the brotherhood; they center member development throughout the collegiate and alumni experience. Additionally, they focus on building a safe and supportive brotherhood year over year through a yearly kickoff retreat. They started this tradition when the chapter was struggling years ago and feels like it helps them remember previous struggles, while looking for ways to grow and improve moving forward. This also sets clear expectations and ensures every member is on the same page.
