On Aug. 2, during Delta Tau Delta’s biannual international convention, Karnea, Shawn Powers, a senior at the University of Georgia, was elected as the second-ever student director on the fraternity’s governing board, the Arch Chapter. This historic election took place in front of over 500 Delts, including undergraduates, alumni and guests from over 126 chapters.
The position of student director was first established during the 2022 Karnea in Norfolk, Virginia, to enhance undergraduate representation on the fraternity’s board of directors. The student director also serves as the chair of the Undergraduate Council, a body of 12 undergraduate representatives that are a vital link between the undergraduate members and the Arch Chapter. The council ensures the voices and concerns of active collegiate brothers are heard at the highest levels of the fraternity.
