CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – A local fraternity took advantage of the beautiful weather today to host their first annual field day event in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters Of Eastern Missouri.
The event is part of Sigma Phi Epsilon’s philanthropy week. It was held from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 11 at SEMO’s intramural softball fields.
The field day event featured a lot of activities from kickball, flag football, softball, and arts and crafts provided by sorority members and great food for all participants.
The goal is to offer an opportunity for Bigs and Littles to enjoy quality time together while participating in engaging activities.
Philanthropy chair Hunter Thompson says this is the perfect way for them to give back to the community.
“Instead of kind of keeping things more within the school, I really wanted to get the community involved. Especially with Big Brothers and Big Sisters,” Thompson said. “That’s kind of like a really big part of the whole philanthropy. I feel like just getting out here with the kids, giving them a good time, giving them valuable memories that they’ll actually be able to walk away with. To me at least, means a lot more.”
Thanks to their generous sponsors, the fraternity conducted a raffle for prizes valued at over $750.
Thompson says they hope to put on another field day event in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters next year.
