SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) – A fraternity chapter in the Lowcountry helped lessen the school lunch debt load at an elementary school in Summerville on Thursday.
Members from the Xi Phi Lambda chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity hosted a gala on Dec. 7 in order to raise the funds necessary for students who have a lunch debt at Alston Bailey Elementary School — a total of $1,575.
“The crisis of lunch debt is something that we are seeing all across the United States,” Damien Seabrook, President of Xi Phi Lambda said. “The Brothers of Xi Phi Lambda saw this as a project that we could get behind and we knew that our community supporters would help to support it as well.”
A group representing the fraternity presented the check to school principal Vernisa Bodison Thursday afternoon.
