FLORENCE, Ala. (WAFF) – A south Alabama family is without a home and their belongings following a fire on Christmas Eve. Now, students at a University of North Alabama fraternity are stepping in to help.

The house the Parr family lived in for more than a decade was gone within minutes. The brothers of UNA’s Alpha Tau Omega chapter have been collecting supplies for the family for the past few days.

“It’s still hard to believe that it happened,” said daughter Madison Helms.

The Parr family, who lived in a home just outside of Dothan, lost everything to a fire on Christmas Eve. But the fire has also fueled kindness and at a fast pace right here in North Alabama.

“This was a really good opportunity to help out another member of another community,” said Matthew Irby.

Alpha Tau Omega fraternity member Matthew Irby serves as the chapter’s Social Service Chairman.

He says he went to the same high school as one of the Parr family members.
