The Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at the University of Idaho raised $8,000 in food and cash for the Moscow and Kamiah food banks.
The fraternity hosted a week of events from September 14th to the 16th.
With the help of sponsors (UYLC, Ziply Fiber, and OUI), the fraternity was able to hold a food drive, a charity concert, and other events that would allow people in the community to donate.
“This is the first time we’ve seen this much involvement in the philanthropy not only from our sororities and Moscow community but also other fraternities too, that’s something that you don’t really see a lot,” Lambda Chi Philanthropy Chairman Dylan Solly said.
Both Moscow and Kamiah face poverty and food insecurity issues. The money donated will be split between the two food banks.
“75 percent will be going to Moscow food bank and 25 percent is going to go to Kamiah food bank, mainly just because we are closer to Moscow food bank, so we give them more money,” Dylan Solly said.
This is the largest single donation for the Moscow food bank. As well as the largest fundraiser in Lambda Chi history.
“It’s a pretty great feeling, I know pretty much every guy in this house we’re proud to be a part of an organization that’s been able to do so much for the community,” Treasurer Ethan Marklund said.
Earlier this year the fraternity partnered with the corner club, raising over $5,000 for the food banks.
This year alone Lambda Chi has raised over $13,000 for the food banks. This makes them one of the largest philanthropic and nonprofit groups in Latah County.
