Brother Nate Shreffler (Hillsdale ’91), who has served as an assistant coach at Hillsdale College for 25 seasons, has recently been appointed as the 30th head football coach in the college’s history. This new role marks the next step in his successful career as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator for the past 13 seasons. As the longest-tenured coach on the football staff, he is entering his 30th season at Hillsdale College this fall. Shreffler’s extensive experience and exceptional coaching abilities position him well to lead the Chargers into a new era while upholding the program’s rich traditions and achievements.
Not only has Shreffler focused on achieving success on the field, but he has also prioritized instilling valuable qualities in his players and actively engaging them in the community, embodying the ideals of being a Better Man. He has been a driving force behind Hillsdale College football program’s charitable initiatives, such as the “Guys With Ties” program, which pairs local fourth graders with football players to promote leadership, integrity, kindness, gratitude, manners, and sportsmanship. Additionally, Shreffler has taken the lead in organizing the Chargers’ volunteer tutoring program, providing reading and math assistance to elementary school students in the community. In recognition of his outstanding charitable efforts and consistent excellence throughout his career, Shreffler was honored as the NCAA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association in 2022.
