Area KAP fraternity alumni donate to Jackson House

The Hot Springs, Arkadelphia, and Malvern (H.A.M) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. presented a $1,000 monetary donation to The Jackson House, 705 Malvern Ave. on Friday.

Each year, the Senior Kappas H.A.M partner with the local nonprofit organization that shares their vision of providing support to those in need in Garland and Clark County, specifically the senior population, a news release said.

The Jackson House mission of providing short-term emergency assistance for basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter and medicine, was selected this year to receive the donation, it said.

“Our senior citizens continue to have a tough time with having enough resources to adequately support themselves,” Herman Thomas, chairman of the Senior Kappas committee and for the five-state region of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc., said in the release.

“They have been hit especially hard by current socioeconomic conditions; so, we hope that our donation to the Jackson House will help meet some of their basic needs during the holiday season,” he said.

The H.A.M Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. is a nonprofit organization. Lon Ware is the chapter president.

“The goal of the organization is to encourage achievement among its members and community, to support educational institutions, and to inspire service in the public interest,” the release said.
