CHICO, Calif. — Alumni of Chico State’s Beta Theta Pi fraternity gathered at their former home, the Enloe Mansion, for a reunion on Saturday.

“We lived here, this was our house for a year and it was amazing. Everyday you’d come home and there was 20 of us in this house, and there was always something to do,” said Todd Chronert, Beta Theta Pi member of Pledge Class 1992.

More than 525 members participated in annual philanthropic events, held positions within the Associated Students Student Government, served as captains and athletes on Chico State’s sports teams, and won the IFC Greek Cup over 10 times. Aside from these accomplishments, alumni tell KRCR their favorite memories of their time in the fraternity have been the relationships they’ve developed with one another.

“Even though I graduated 30 years ago, some of my best friends are from my time here and I still meet up with them on an annual basis in a variety of different ways. They’re the people that I go to when I’m dealing with challenging things in my life or I want to celebrate something. They’re still the best of friends of my life,” said Chris Balck of the Beta Theta Pi Alumni Association.

Brothers also reflected on the lessons they learned while in the fraternity, which include leadership, confidence, and camaraderie.

“You develop this relationship with it [Beta Theta Pi house], and then you live in it the next year, and you keep the process going. Now you’re giving advice to the new guys coming in or how to take care of things and it, it makes you a part of something that’s bigger than yourself,” said John Nava, Beta Theta Pi member of Pledge Class 1996.

Founded in the late 1980s, Beta Theta Pi was disbanded in 2007. However, the fraternity is set to make its return to campus in the fall of 2025 with its first pledge class since disbandment.

Renowned for fostering ‘Men of Principle,’ the fraternity is committed to community service and campus stewardship.
