TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A local fraternity is looking to support NICU families at Riley Children’s Hospital through a daunting physical challenge.
The philanthropy committee of Rose-Hulman’s Alpha Tau Omega chapter launched a signature event last year called Carmine’s Convoy to raise money in the name of community service. Last year, the event managed to raise over $40,000 for a non-profit named Rook’s Resources centered on supporting families during challenging times.
“NICU families are often overwhelmed, scared, and isolated,” said Thomas Reives, Founder of Rook’s Resources. “Carmine’s Convoy is about reminding them that they are not alone—and that their community is willing to go the distance, literally, to support them.”
The event itself is a two-day, 66-mile walk from the college’s campus to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. This year’s event will be held on March 13 and 14. They hope to raise over $100,000 to support NICU families at both Riley Children’s Hospital and Union Hospital.
Carmine’s Convoy brings together students, alumni, and community members in a show of endurance, empathy and purpose, walking in honor of families faced with the unimaginable. Rook’s Resources was founded by Rose-Hulman graduate Thomas Reives and his wife, Shecara, after the loss of their son Rook and the survival of his twin brother Carmine after extensive NICU care.
Proceeds from the 2026 Carmine’s Convoy Walk will support Rook’s Resources’ ongoing programs, including:
- NICU-focused children’s books designed to educate and comfort families
- Care packages and nourishment supplies for parents during extended hospital stays
- Holiday and milestone gift programs for NICU families
- Support services in partnership with Riley Hospital for Children and Ronald McDonald House Charities
