After 2 years away due to the coronavirus pandemic, Song Fest returned this past weekend to Nicholls State University.
The university’s fraternities and sororities gathered for the always-fun competition with each group showing off their skills within each routine.
This year’s event also remembered the lives of 8 Nicholls students who have died in the past year and proceeds for the event went to the families of those students.
Dr. Michele Caruso, the Vice President for Student Affairs at Nicholls said that it was great to get the students together again, and it was even greater knowing that the fruits of the students’ labors were going to such a worthwhile cause that is so near to everyone in the Nicholls communities’ hearts.
“I know everyone has missed this a lot, and our campus as a whole has had to endure a lot with the pandemic and the hurricane,” Dr. Caruso said. “But even more difficult has been dealing with the loss and accepting the deaths of the 8 students we lost last year, which left a mark on our whole campus community and on me as a mother.”
With heavy hearts, but motivated, energetic minds, the students performed admirably to honor their lost classmates and peers with several jaw-dropping performances.
Dr. Caruso said the talent on display at the event was remarkable, and she applauded all of the students for their efforts in making the event a success.
“I want to say that all of this creativity, all this energy, all this life that we saw tonight in the performances that ya’ll spent so much time preparing for, it’s such a special experience,” Dr. Caruso said. “It brings a lot of joy to everybody here tonight to witness all this passion that you’ve dedicated to it and all of the activities you’ve done this week and all of the fun.
