Delt named to Order of St. John

Steve Leland (Delta Tau Delta, University of Southern California, 1985) has been invested as a Member of the Priory in the USA of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. A chivalric order under the British Crown, the recognition is conferred on individuals who are engaged in significant charitable and humanitarian work in furtherance of the aims of the Order. Steve received the appointment from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth last year. This past October, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, Grand Prior of the Order, presided over the formal investiture ceremony.

A former Delt chapter consultant, Steve has held volunteer leadership roles with a number of nonprofit, university and community organizations and is active in several ministries within the Episcopal Church. He has served the Fraternity as a division vice president, chaired the Los Angeles Karnea and is a recipient of the John Nichols Bridge Builder Award. Currently, Steve advises our chapters at the University of California – Los Angeles and the University of Southern California.

First constituted by Royal Charter from Queen Victoria in 1888 and today active in more than 44 countries, the Order of St John is a working humanitarian organization that traces its origins to the Knights Hospitaller, who in the 12th century operated a hospital in Jerusalem, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, to provide care for sick and injured pilgrims to the Holy Land.
