Fraternity and Sorority Life is set to expand this fall, following the confirmation of three new organizations joining the community, in hopes of growing engagement between students and alumni.

Three of the four governing councils will be represented through the organizations. Sigma Chi is joining the Interfraternity Council, the Multicultural Greek Council welcomes Lambda Theta Alpha, and Iota Phi Theta joins the National Pan-Hellenic Council.

FSL director Amanda Perez said none of the organizations are new to the university.

“The best part about, actually, all three of these groups, is they’re all returning back to UTA,” she said.

Perez said the return of the organizations is great, not only for FSL, but for UTA as well in terms of alumni engagement, potential legacies and students choosing UTA because their parent’s chapter is back on campus.

FSL is now home to 31 organizations, including eight of the Divine Nine National Panhellenic Council organizations, with the addition of Iota Phi Theta. Perez said the university is very close to having all nine organizations, which is something every university strives for.

Perez said FSL is always looking to add new chapters, but this expansion is significant because it is the first since the pandemic.

“It’s really exciting for us because we have not had new organizations in quite some time, and to have three in a year, it’s going to be pretty cool to see, like, what that looks like, how our community responds, and also how they’re all going to push our community to do better,” Perez said.

Perez said FSL is doing a great job representing UTA with their student experiences. Organizations host various events to connect with campus life and the Arlington community.

“The students are amazing here. I love working with them. They’re so excited, they’re so passionate, and our alumni are really great,” Perez said.
