The Atlantic Coast region of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity hosted a celebration at the Hilton Harrisburg on Sunday to honor eleven students on their way to college.
“We wanted to honor students of all rares and forms,” said Johnnie Geathers, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
The group recognized the huge accomplishment for the high school seniors who will soon begin a new chapter in their lives.
“I feel kind of happy and filled with joy because I think that at the end of the day even though we’re not – well, we’re all athletes – but even though I’m not going to school to play a sport, i still think that every kid deserves an opportunity to be showcased and get props and credit for how far they made it in their four years of high school,” said Julissa Cabbagestalk, a senior at Central Dauphin East High School.
Friends, family and peers joined each other at the ceremony where students were able to give a speech about their journey.
The students – and soon to be graduates – also were sent on their way with a laundry basket filled with plenty of college necessities.
