Penn State will implement a new fraternity and sorority recruitment framework during the 2026-27 academic year, allowing individual organizations and governing councils to begin their recruitment process several weeks into the fall semester or continue with the current spring timeline.
The Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils will determine whether to implement the new model or maintain the spring recruitment timeline, according to a Penn State news article. The Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council will have the option to implement whichever timeline is believed to fit best.
Councils and chapters that choose to pursue the fall framework will be expected to meet additional university requirements, including clearly defined recruitment timelines, adhering to social event moratorium periods and other safety measures.
The article said the decision was the result of “informed insights” from RISE Partnerships, a consulting company, reports. The new framework also addresses concerns of “ghost pledging” or other unsanctioned, unsafe recruitment methods.
