Members of the Upsilon Iota Iota chapter of the Omega Psi Psi Fraternity Inc. presented scholarships to four local students Wednesday at Whitehaven Welcome Center. The scholarship recipients, from left to right, are Alexa White, Alec Coffie, Sydnee Harris, and Kennedy Simmons. White was awarded the Dr. Dennis Henry Anderson Scholarship, and Coffie was awarded the Clarence “Big House” Gains Scholarship. Harris received the Dr. William Stuart Nelson Scholarship. White, Coffie and Harris will attend Kentucky State University in the fall. Simmons, who will attend West Kentucky University, was awarded the Rev. Lawrence Milliken Scholarship. All the students were commended for their academic achievements by members of the fraternity. They were required to submit an essay on perseverance to be considered for the scholarships.
