VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) — 327 N. Pine St. in Vermillion is once again home to members of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity just 13-months after the 92-year-old former house was demolished.

Now, undergraduate members of the fraternity are moved in ahead of the 2024 fall semester at the University of South Dakota, The brotherhood is planning a dedication for October 12.

“We have completed the new house ahead of schedule and on budget,” said building committee chair Mike Runge of Sioux Falls, crediting a mild winter in aiding the construction time.

Throughout the construction process, undergraduate brothers lived in rented houses and apartments around Vermillion and held chapter meetings at the Munster University Center, according to the release announcing the completion of the house.

The new house is the fourth home of the 108-year-old fraternity chapter, and the first home purposely built for them. The previous house had been built as the Alpha Phi sorority in 1931 and was purchased by Lambda Chi Alpha in 1937.
