PARKERSBURG — A teacher at Parkersburg High School has received the Chapter Adviser of the Biennium Award from Acacia Fraternity.
J. Scott Cleland also was elected as the international first vice president of the International Council during its conclave in Phoenix. Cleland will be entering his 15th year on the International Council, serving three previous terms as first vice president and one term as second vice president.
Cleland, a manufacturing teacher at PHS, is a re-founding member of the Ohio University Chapter and has served on two separate occasions as chapter adviser. Only one chapter adviser is recognized every two years for the Acacia Fraternity as the Chapter Adviser of the Biennium.
Cleland has previously been recognized for his leadership on the international level with the Order of Pythagoras and the Award of Merit. The Ohio University Chapter also created the Lyman/Cleland Leadership Award in his honor and has presented him with the Alumnus of the Year Award four times.
The Acacia Fraternity, which uses a Greek word rather than the Greek letters used by other fraternities, has more than 1,000 brothers in 30 active Acacia chapters and associate chapters across North America and more than 55,000 alumni around the world.
