WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — Student leaders at Baylor University recently organized an event to encourage their peers to register to vote on National Voters Registration Day.
Members of the Tau Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. spearheaded the initiative, which included distributing refreshments and offering advice on checking voter registration status.
The initiative aligns with Alpha Phi Alpha’s national program, “A Vote Less People is a Hopeless People,” which aims to increase voter registration and educate individuals about ballot issues.
The event marked the culmination of three weeks of preparation by the fraternity, which collaborated with the university to ensure its success.
Understanding the influence of technology, they utilized digital platforms to maximize outreach and engagement.
“We sat down as a chapter and asked ourselves, ‘What can we do to fulfill our national programs?’ With National Voter Registration Day approaching, we chose this event. It wasn’t just about registering people to vote; it was about educating them on how to vote and how to access voting resources,” Williams said.
To attract their peers to the registration table the chapter gave free lemonade to the campus as an incentive.
As election day gets closer Williams emphasized the importance of young voters exercising their voting rights.
