WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The greatest spectacle in college racing is almost here. Purdue students are getting amped up about the Grand Prix taking place Saturday, April 26.

“It’s pretty electric. I’m not gonna lie. Everybody overall is just looking forward to the competitiveness of it. Fraternity vs fraternity is a big thing here because everybody has a cart,” said Purdue freshman and Beta Theta Pi pledge Liam Fahey.

Sophomore Beta, and Grand Prix racer Noah Perkins has been preparing for the upcoming race for months.

“We did some testing several months ago, and we’ve been at it, basically every single day,” Perkins said.

Known as the greatest spectacle in college racing, the Purdue Grand Prix started in 1958. It takes place at the Grand Prix track in West Lafayette.

You have the opportunity to see 33 karts race each other. Among those are student organizations, resident halls, and Greek organizations like the Beta Fraternity.

Perkins has loved every single second leading up to race day.

“It’s great, it’s been like the best experience ever,” he said.

Perkins and his seven pit crew beta brothers said they are on the comeback this year, and they have a message for Purdue’s campus.

“Keep a lookout for Beta, man. We’re going to come as fast as we can, and yeah, it’s going to be good.”

The green flag for the Grand Prix race will start waiving at 2:30 p.m.
