WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Baylor University fraternity members from Alpha Tau Omega and Kappa Omicron Tau shaved their heads Thursday evening to raise money for two fathers in the campus community who are battling cancer.
The groups have raised over $40,000 so far, according to Bryce Isham, an ATO committee member. More than 30 people participated in the head-shaving event.
“We will have over 30 people getting their hair cut, it is a big group out here, we are really excited for the turnout,” Isham said.
The annual Cuts for Cancer philanthropy event ran from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2025 in front of the South Russell Dormitory. Organizers aim to raise close to $100,000 to support the two Baylor fathers currently fighting serious forms of cancer.
Fraternities unite for personal cause
ATO is raising money for a 1993 Baylor graduate and ATO member. KOT joined the effort because they also have a member whose father is battling cancer.
“I am advocating, when people ask me now why I shaved my hair, I can explain I did it for cancer awareness and maybe I can get them to donate to this cause,” said Tyler Dull, ATO philanthropy chair. “We are partnering with KOT because they also have a member whose father is battling cancer. It is a good way for us to contribute to a community beyond just our fraternity.”
Elite Barbershop in Waco donated services, with three barbers on hand to give haircuts to participants. Students who did not get haircuts attended to support their friends.
The week featured multiple fundraising events on Baylor’s campus, including cornhole and pickleball tournaments. All funds raised will go directly to the families to help cover treatment costs.
