Auburn University Interfraternity Council hosts successful “Batting Practice with Butch Thompson” event

The Auburn University Interfraternity Council (IFC) hosted its annual Batting Practice with Butch Thompson (BP with BT) event on the evening of Feb. 2, bringing together fraternity members, campus partners and Auburn Baseball supporters for an afternoon of spirited competition and community engagement.

Held at Plainsman Park, the event offered students the rare opportunity to step into the batter’s box under the guidance of Auburn Baseball Head Coach Butch Thompson. Twenty-two fraternity representatives competed in a home-run derby competition on the ballfield. Participants rotated through hitting rounds, with Coach Thompson offering tips, encouragement and plenty of Auburn‑style enthusiasm.

This year’s event raised $7,535, marking an increase of more than $2,000 — nearly 40% more than last year’s total. All proceeds benefit the Hudson Family Foundation, founded by former Auburn pitcher and MLB player Tim Hudson, which supports children and families in the local community.

Brock Bergey Crowned 2026 BP with BT Champion

After a competitive slate of hitters, Brock Bergey, of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, earned the title of Top Batter for the 2026 event. Bergey’s performance secured him an Auburn baseball jersey signed by Coach Thompson and the honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch at Auburns February 28 game against Nebraska.

“This event showed the kind of excitement and involvement that makes our Greek community one of the best in the country,” said Warren Ainsworth, IFC President. “BP with BT is another great reminder of how our students come together to support Auburn and each other.”

Phi Gamma Delta Recognized as Top Donor

In addition to the batting competition, the event served as a philanthropic opportunity for the Greek community. Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) was recognized as the top donor fraternity, contributing the highest amount toward IFC;s designated campus initiatives.

“We’re proud to support an event that brings people together and strengthens the Auburn experience,” said Hutch Sprayberry, President of Phi Gamma Delta. “Our chapter believes in showing up for the campus we love, and BP with BT is one of the best traditions we have.”

Phi Gamma Delta will be honored on the field at the Auburn vs. Nebraska game on Saturday, February 28.

Strengthening Community Through Tradition

The BP with BT event continues to be one of IFC’s signature annual traditions, blending friendly competition with meaningful campus impact.

“Our Greek community consistently demonstrates leadership, generosity and a commitment to making Auburn better,” said Sam Faulkner, IFC Executive Vice President. “Events like this highlight the positive influence our students have on campus.”
