The American University Women’s Volleyball team is ready to host Holy Cross on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 7 p.m. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, AU’s Beta Theta Pi fraternity and Sigma Kappa sorority partnered with American University Athletics to host the 5th Annual Bender Pink Out. All proceeds fundraised by Beta Theta Pi and Sigma Kappa leading up to the game will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. They encourage all attendees to support the cause and raise awareness by wearing pink to the game.

When asked about the importance behind the event, Cierra DePalmo, Vice President of Philanthropic Service for Sigma Kappa said, “One in 8 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. As a women’s organization, Sigma Kappa wanted to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation and raise awareness about a disease that impacts the lives of so many women.” These two chapters of fraternity and sorority life at American University are helping to search for a cure and they invite you to help by coming out to support Friday night’s game.

There will be Pink Out long sleeve shirts for sale in the Bender Arena lobby before the game to further support the cause and the event. Don’t be afraid to bring some friends along as well! Spencer Hurwitz, Vice President of Programming for Beta Theta Pi put it best when he said, “Coming to Bender Pink Out is more than just supporting Beta Theta Pi and Sigma Kappa. It is about supporting the millions of Americans affected by breast cancer each year. More so, it is about supporting your fellow eagles, many of whom are also affected.” Remember to show up and cheer for those battling tough opponents on and off the court.
