Scholarship secured by hard work of chapters

Via Sigma Phi Epsilon

On September 14th, Sigma Phi Epsilon’s Kentucky Zeta chapter at Morehead State University hosted the 8th annual J.B. Blakeman Memorial Golf Scramble.

The Golf Scramble was started by Sweetheart, Vicki Blakeman, to fund the J.B. Blakeman Memorial Scholarship and is co-hosted with the sisters of Chi Omega as Vicki is also a Chi Omega alumna. This scholarship has been a wonderful benefit for our chapter as last year it became endowed through the university which means we have raised over $30,000 for the scholarship alone and members will be able to apply and receive the scholarship as long as University doors are open.

When the scholarship first came about in 2011 there were only two $500 scholarships given a semester. With all of the love and support from the Blakeman family, alumni, and community members here in Morehead, we were able to raise $10,000 this year alone.

We were able to give out four $500 scholarships to current active members Conner Barker, Tanner Brown, Tyler Jones, and Clay Sizemore; and one $250 New Flyer scholarship to a new member, Gaige Webb. Vicki was even able to award the women of Chi Omega a $250 donation for their continuous support of J.B. Blakeman Memorial Scholarship. These men are selected by a committee based on their hard work to live by our principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.
