The Charlotte alumni chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity will need some time to defrost after their charity work this weekend.

From Thursday to Sunday, the brothers camped outside their hall on Beatties Ford Road to bring awareness to the homeless population in our area and try to understand what struggles they face daily.

The fraternity collaborated with “Hope Vibes Charlotte,” collecting donations and supplies for those in need. A public drop-off was held from 7 a.m. to noon, collecting things like soap, gloves, hand warmers, hats, and scarves.

The president of the Kappa Alpha Psi alumni chapter, Justin Neal, said that trying to think in those freezing temperatures was his biggest takeaway.

“The biggest thing I took away from living out there is that you’re so focused on living minute by minute, hour by hour in that 30 degrees that you don’t really have a lot of time to think about how to get out of the situation because you’re more focused on the here and now,” Neal explained.
