Schuylkill County state lawmaker honored by Penn State fraternity

Jamie Barton named Phi Sigma Kappa “Man of the Year.”

State Rep. Jamie Barton, R-Berks/Schuylkill, recently was recognized with the “Man of the Year” award by the Phi Sigma Kappa, Penn State Kappa Chapter for his ongoing commitment to serving the community in his role as a state representative.

“As part of the fraternity’s 150th anniversary celebration, I was both honored and humbled to receive this award,” Barton said. “My commitment to our communities has its roots in my experiences with Phi Sigma Kappa, and I will be forever grateful for the lessons learned and relationships formed there.”

Barton is serving his first term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He spent 33 years in the energy industry as the vice president of Jack Rich Inc. He studied business at Penn State and later Alvernia University.

Barton serves on the board of directors for the Big Impact Group of Schuylkill County and Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce, and volunteered as an instructor at the Young Entrepreneur Academy. He also is a past president and current member of the board of directors for the Orwigsburg Lions Club and volunteer fundraiser for the Pennsylvania State Police Camp Cadet. He serves as a lay pastor and Sunday school teacher and has served as president and consistory member at St. Johns UCC in Orwigsburg.

Barton serves on the Pennsylvania Petroleum Association board of directors and has served as an adjunct professor at Penn State.
