RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — A local fraternity hosted a derby on Sunday in efforts to raise money for scholarships and community programs.

The Alpha Psi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., also known as the Capital City Alphas, held their inaugural Capital City Derby at The Farm at Ridgeway.

Dozens of guests joined the brothers to raise money for mentoring programs, scholarships, and community advocacy.

The Kentucky Derby-themed event was a step outside the box to commemorate South Carolina’s oldest alumni chapter’s 89th anniversary.

The event featured a live horse event, derby-themed games, dinner and many other activities.

Guest competed in contest, like Best Dressed Gentleman and Best Hat/Fascinator, to win gifts.
