CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A fraternity chapter in Charlottesville is using Martin Luther King Jr. Day to help give back to the community.

“It’s all about our young people, the dreams, the hopes. These efforts are going to help the young people in our future achieve that,” Charlottesville Mayor Juandiego Wade said Monday, January 15.

Wade was joined by other members of the Gamma Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha for a brunch fundraiser. The money raised from Monday’s event will go towards scholarships.

“We’re really excited to have so many people to come out support this effort where we want to find scholarships for graduates because of Charlottesville, Albemarle County and Louisa high schools,” the mayor said.

Wade says the fraternity reached its goal of raising $25,000.
