PADUCAH – The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Sigma Xi Lambda chapter hosted their second annual Jewel Vertner Woodson Tandy Scholarship breakfast.
It was at the Emerging Technology Center in Paducah.
For context, Alpha Phi Alpha is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men.
Saturday, three $1,000 scholarship were given to underrepresented high school seniors in the Paducah area who plan to pursue a higher education at a four-year institution.
City Commissioner and Pastor Raynarldo Henderson of Washington Street Baptist Church spoke at the breakfast Saturday about the importance of community and education.
“Education is one of the most powerful weapons that you can use to change the world,” said Henderson, speaking at the event. “Do leave a work ethic. A respect ethic. A prayer ethic.”
