Tau Epsilon Phi (TEP) is a newly established fraternity at the University of Central Florida as of this fall due to UCF popularity increasing.

There are a total of 13 fraternities within the Interfraternity Council (IFC), with TEP being one of the newest, according to the Fraternity and Sorority website at UCF.

Brendan Gondek, TEP president, said UCF has very few IFC Jewish fraternities and they wanted to change that.

Gondek said they have been currently recruiting new members in order to grow this organization into a larger scale and make themselves more known.

Traditionally, joining a fraternity is done for multiple reasons, however, this fraternity has core beliefs based on Judaism, Gondek said.

Alpha Epsilon Pi was the most recent chapter to disaffiliate that was based on Jewish beliefs in 2020, according to UCF.

Gondek said Tau Epsilon Phi has 18 active chapters in the U.S., making this a growing organization and an upcoming chapter is planned at Florida International University.

Dov Kerbel, new member educator, said his experience allowed him to make great friends and create a bond.

“Tau Epsilon Phi has given me the opportunity to not only create a community rooted in shared values but also create a brotherhood with lifelong bonds and memories,” Kerbel said.
