LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – On Tuesday, Michigan State University sororities and fraternities shut down M.A.C Avenue so kids can have a safe alternative to trick or treating.

“It’s just to make such a large community feel so much smaller,” said Sydney Desjardine, a student chair of Safe Halloween.

Each organization sets up tables along the blocked-off street passing out candy, with music and other games for kids to play safely.

“Because of how big this neighborhood is, it can be dangerous, especially in the night time and so close to a college town, that closing down this street and offering a safe opportunity for kids to go trick or treating allows them to get their creative side out while also being in a safe environment,” said Sofia Greco, the student Director of Safe Halloween.

The event supports and donates to a cause, this year the Muscular Dystrophy Association. You can find the link to donate here.
