ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – It’s been a while since the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity has hosted it’s holiday clothing drive, but its returning this winter for the first time in 5 years.

Ervin Fulton, organizer of the clothing drive, has been visually impaired for almost all his life. In 1996, he joined the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity at Albany State University (ASU). Because of his disability, Fulton felt that he didn’t have a sense of belonging within the organization, so he took it upon himself to host a clothing drive.

“I joined the fraternity to work, not just to wear the letters. So, I took on the task of organizing this clothing drive. Had it not been for COVID, this would have been my 26th year,” Fulton, said.

ASU’s Phi Beta Sigma fraternity is working alongside Albany Cares and Albany Parks and Recreation to make this year’s drive extra special. They are excepting clothing for both adults and children, as well as toys.

“It’s always a pleasure. I try to do what I can to stay active in Albany Georgia. This is my home and I love Albany. God bless the community, thanks for helping out, and looking forward to seeing everyone of you at the clothing drive,” Fulton, said.

Donations can be dropped off at the Bill Miller Gymnasium until December 20th. The clothing drive will take place at the Bill Miller Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 21st. Whatever items that are left over from the event will be donated to the Albany Rescue Mission.
