Pep Supper is an opportunity for the College of Charleston’s fraternities and sororities to work together to help make a positive contribution to the local community.
This year’s event, which took place on Oct. 22, 2019, went very well. In just over a week of fundraising, the College’s fraternity and sorority community raised $27,515 as well as collected over 3,344 pounds of food for the Lowcountry Food Bank.
“Community-wide events like Pep Supper offer valuable learning experiences for CofC students while also supporting some amazing causes like the Lowcountry Food Bank,” says Kyle McCoil, assistant director for the Higdon Center for Student Leadership and Fraternity & Sorority Life. “I was so impressed with the level of participation, dedication and engagement from across all of our councils this year.”
An annual event at CofC, Pep Supper celebrates CofC athletes while also focusing on supporting the Charleston community.
For the overall fundraising, banner, and skit portion of the event, the following groups took home titles: third place, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority; second place, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.; first place, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
Pep Supper is just one of several philanthropic and community service events CofC’s fraternities and sororities hold each year. During the 2018-19 academic year, the fraternity and sorority community contributed just over 29,000 community service hours and raised $270,880 in donations for various nonprofits.
Chris Alesso, a senior in Alpha Tau Omega and vice president for the Interfraternity Council’s executive board, says Pep Supper brings the entire fraternity and sorority community together in a meaningful, visible way.
“I believe Pep Supper is important because it allows the Greek community to stand together for what we believe in,” says Alesso. “We come from different chapters, hometowns and backgrounds. Yet all of our organizations have similar values. Pep Supper bonds our community and allows us to stand up for the worthy cause of the Lowcountry Food Bank. Overall, it’s a lot of fun, healthy competition and for a great cause.”
