ORANGE PARK – The Sigma Pi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. unveiled their Adopt-a-Highway sign along U.S. Highway 17. In partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, the fraternity has agreed keep the two-mile stretch of roadway free of litter and debris. Spearheaded by member James Wesley, the service project aligns with a portion of the fraternity’s motto, to be “servants of all.” Alpha Phi Alpha is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American Men, established on Dec. 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The Sigma Pi Lambda chapter was established on July 27, 2019, to serve Clay and St. Johns counties. Joining in the sign recognition were (from left) Wayne Peterson, Michael Wilkes, James Wesley, Darian Jackson, Jeffrey Rumlin, Andreas Glover and Chad Baker.
