The fraternity brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Chi at the University of Florida hosted a BBQ fundraising event on February 24, 2024, to benefit Jett Foundation and the families we serve in the Duchenne muscular dystrophy community. 197 students and 115 fraternity members attended to listen to live music, enjoy fresh BBQ food, and play yard games with attendance proceeds benefiting Jett Foundation.

TJ Bowen, Sigma Phi Epsilon’s Chair, has had a lifelong friendship with Dale Ginder, an individual living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The Ginder Family supports Jett Foundation annually for programs such as the Jett Giving Fund through their organization, Cure Dale’s Duchenne.

“Jett Foundation and the Duchenne community mean a lot to me due to my relationship with Dale,” shares TJ. “It was nice to be able to teach more people about what Duchenne is and how Jett Foundation supports families impacted by Duchenne. Being able to sit back and take in the wholesome moment of all these people supporting the Duchenne community was unlike anything I’ve experienced.”

Sigma’s fundraising efforts have resulted in $7,000 raised and counting to directly support families through Jett’s programs and resources.

TJ says, “The BBQ went perfectly and we are very grateful to everyone who came by to support. My favorite part was having Dale hang out and get to know students from the University of Florida. We hope to be able to host fundraising events for Jett Foundation again in the future and continue to raise awareness about Duchenne muscular dystrophy.”

Thank you for your support, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Chi!
